A PGA Private Lesson, is a one on one session between an athlete and coach. Why book a “Private Lesson?”

In a Private Lesson, the coach is able to fully focus on your athlete and your athlete alone. Your athlete is able to repeat their skill and practice it over and over again, as they aren’t taking turns with other classmates. This concentrated attention, coupled with the lack of outside distractions and increased gym time, is known to increase your athlete’s overall progression rate.

Sometimes a gymnast has already achieved the skills they need in order to progress to the next level, except for one or two key elements. A Private Lesson could easily be all it takes to get them over that hump and on their way to reach their next goal.

Gymnastics is hard. Some say it’s the most difficult sport in the world. It’s not uncommon for gymnasts to experience mental blocks, fear, or hesitation when learning new skills. One-on-one time with your coach is a great way to ease any anxiety and allow the gymnast to work at their own pace, rather than at the class pace.

Additionally, Private Lessons will help your athlete feel more confident performing these skills in class, because of the extra practice time they’ve had.

Youngsters aged gymnasts (1-4) use Private Lessons to:

Improve Behavior & Listening Skills
Enforce Structure
Introduce Outside Authority Figures

Other parents invest in Private Lessons for their tiny tot to when they’re scared or nervous to join a class setting, or when they are anxious to leave mom and dad. These lessons allow them to ease into the world of gymnastics and build their confidence along the way.

Private Lessons Tips for Success

  • Make the most of your lesson time!

Arrive a few minutes early. Make sure you're already dressed, hair is secured, and jewely is off before your coach is ready to begin.

  • Limit your distractions, sideline coaching, & visitors!

Private lessons work best when they are…well, private! If parents choose to stay and watch, be sure you observe quietly from the seating area and really allow your coach and athlete to connect.

  • Avoid burnout & listen to your body!

Private lessons can be fun and once you see improvements, it can be tempting to over-book your athlete. Remember, one hour, or even 30 minutes is a long time when you’re not taking turns with others. Too many sessions in a short amount of time can lead to emotional burnout, and stress on the body. Listen to your athlete, listen to your body, and head your coach’s suggestions on session length & frequency.

  • Communication is KEY.

Determine and define your WHY before booking your lesson, and then thoroughly communicate that with your coach. Are you here for a specific skill? Are you here for confidence reasons? Increasing strength or flexibility? This is your hour and your coach is creating a custom lesson plan just for you and your specific needs. Communicate what you hope to get out of your lesson, and then trust the process.

  • Rome wasn't built in a day.

Yes, Private Lessons are a great way (maybe even the best way) to fast track your success. It’s hard to beat uninterrupted 1:1 attention from a trained and professional gymnastics coach. With that being said, be patient. There is no magic time frame or number of lessons needed to achieve your goal. Gymnastics is an individual sport that requires a mind-body connection and great mental and physical strength. It may take one lesson for you to meet your goal, and it may take a year of lessons. Either way, your athlete will grow and progress after each session, but keep in mind that coaches aren’t magicians and they are trained to never over-push an athlete in a way that could potentially cause physical or emotional harm.

FAQ

  • Private lessons are usually booked in 30 minute or 1 hour increments. The time of your lesson should be determined by you and your coach. Factors such as your goal, the athlete’s age, the athletes regular gym schedule, and the gym’s peak hours will all play a part in this decision.

  • Nope! Who you book with is totally up to you. Keep in mind, many coaches will only accept lessons of kids in certain levels, and not all coaches are trained through the same level.

Another thing to consider is coaching styles. Sometimes, it’s beneficial for your athlete to work additionally with their regular coach, while sometimes all it will take is a different face and a different coaching style to make something “click.” Don’t be afraid to try different coaches!

  • You can cancel with the front desk, or with your coach directly. However, please be sure to review our cancellation policies before booking.
